When it comes to teaching my kids at home, I’m always on the lookout for resources that make learning feel fun, not forced.

This year, we started using Reading Eggs and their math program, Math Seeds with my preschooler and kindergartener, and I gotta say, it has been a total game-changer.

What is Reading Eggs and Math Seeds?

Reading Eggs is an online reading program for kids ages 2–13 that uses interactive games, songs, animations, and rewards to teach essential literacy skills. It’s designed to make learning to read exciting and is such a confidence-boosting program.

It really helped my daughter be confident in both her addition skills and learning how to read!

The program covers everything from letter recognition and phonics to reading comprehension, with each lesson building on the last.

What makes it stand out is the combination of digital lessons and optional printed books that follow the same storyline and characters, reinforcing learning in multiple ways.

Its sister program, Math Seeds, does the same for early math skills, covering number recognition, counting, patterns, shapes, and more in a fun, game-based format.

Both programs are self-paced, so kids can learn at their own speed while still feeling challenged.

Why We Tried Reading Eggs

I’d heard great things about Reading Eggs from other homeschool parents, but what really convinced me to give it a try was how it combines interactive online lessons with physical books.

As a mom, I love that my kids aren’t just staring at a screen; they’re learning through a combination of play, reading, and hands-on activities.

But I do find it really nice that their screen time is so educational and supports their learning goals as we homeschool. It gives me a break and some quiet time while they learn; win-win!

How We Use It with a Preschooler

For my preschooler, Reading Eggs has been the perfect introduction to letters, sounds, and early reading skills.

The program starts right at the basics: teaching letter recognition and phonics through games, songs, and colorful animations. My child doesn’t even realize they’re learning… they just think it’s playtime!

My preschooler does struggle with learning, so this is a fun way for him that motivates him and he is starting to retain more and more!

We also use the Reading Eggs books alongside the lessons. I’ve found that having the same characters and stories in both the app and the books really helps the learning stick.

My preschooler gets so excited when they recognize a letter in the book that they learned in the app!

How We Use It with a Kindergartener

My kindergartener was already starting to read simple words when we began, but Reading Eggs has helped build confidence and expand vocabulary.

The lessons are adaptive, so they automatically adjust to her skill level; keeping her challenged but never overwhelmed. She is quite advanced, so I loved when the program went straight to her level.

She loves working through the map-style learning path where each lesson unlocks the next, making it feel like a big adventure.

I’ve noticed she’s more willing to sit and read independently now, and she’s even starting to read bedtime stories to her little sibling!

Why We Love Math Seeds, Too

Since we were already using Reading Eggs, we decided to try Math Seeds, and I’m so glad we did!

Math Seeds uses the same playful, interactive style to teach math concepts. My kids are practicing counting, shapes, patterns, and even early addition without the stress that sometimes comes with math worksheets.

My kindergartener was having a bit of a challenge learning math with me, so this program helped her learn the way her brain needed and no more frustration with me!

It’s been a huge win in our homeschool routine because both kids are actually excited to “do math.” I never thought I’d hear that!

  • Interactive & engaging: Bright visuals, fun characters, and games keep them hooked.
