How To Make Chicken Handprint Craft
For this chicken craft, you can chose to work with my provided template and save time, or you can also choose to make it from scratch for a more personalized experience.
But be sure to use your toddlers handprint for the main chicken piece!

Select a colored craft paper.
Help your toddler place their hand on the paper, fingers spread wide, and trace around it. You’ll need two handprints for each chicken, a large one for the body and a smaller one for the wings.
Once traced, cut out the handprints.
Then cut out the rest of the pieces from the template above.

Use a matching sharpie to trace outlines on the big handprint (body), small handprint (wing), and head cutouts.
Lay the big handprint on the table with the fingers pointing upward to form the chicken’s feathers.
Glue the head cutout on the top end of the thumb (of the big handprint)
Attach the small handprint on the body base handprint.
Attach the leg cutouts on the bottom side of the chicken pattern.

Attach the wattle cutout on the head cutout, near the bottom part.
Attach the beak cutout on the top part of the wattle pattern.
Attach the comb cutout on the top side of the head part.
Attach googly eyes above the beak to complete the handprint chicken craft.
Glue a few feathers onto the fingers to give your chicken a more realistic, personalised and fun look.

Benefits of Handprint Crafts
- Boosting Memory and Recognition
Handprint crafts help improve your child’s memory and recognition skills. By associating their handprints with the shapes and features of different animals or objects, they learn to recognise and remember these details better. - Learning About Colors and Shapes
Creating handprint crafts is an excellent opportunity to teach your child about colours and shapes. As they choose and combine different colours and shapes to make their craft, they reinforce their understanding and recognition of these basic concepts. - Encouraging Patience and Focus
Crafting requires a certain level of patience and focus, especially for toddlers. Engaging in handprint crafts helps your child practice waiting, following steps, and concentrating on the task at hand, which are essential skills for their overall development.

Tips for Success
To ensure your crafting session is enjoyable and memorable, here are three unique tips that will help make the experience fun and engaging for both you and your toddler:
- Create a Crafting Playlist
Compile a playlist of your child’s favourite songs or themed music related to the craft (like farm animal songs for the chicken craft). Playing these tunes can make the crafting session more lively and keep your child entertained. - Set Up a Crafting Station
Designate a special area in your home as the crafting station. Having a dedicated space with all the supplies laid out can make the activity feel more official and exciting for your toddler, making them look forward to craft time. - Incorporate Learning Moments
Use the crafting time to teach your child interesting facts about what they are making. For instance, while crafting the chicken, you can talk about how chickens live on farms, what they eat, and how they help provide eggs. This adds an educational layer to the fun.
